Volunteers, Volunteers, Volunteers!
KC Move to Amend is joining with hundreds of groups across the country to advance resolutions through city councils in support of a constitutional amendment to abolish “corporate personhood” and the doctrine of “money equals speech.”  Kansas City, MO is the first focus of our campaign. We need hundreds of volunteers to collect thousands of signatures!

We are calling on the Kansas City, Missouri, City Council to pass the following resolution during a Resolutions Week June 11-15:
“RESOLVED, the People of Kansas City, Missouri, stand with communities across the country to defend democracy from the corrupting effects of undue corporate power by amending the United States Constitution to establish that:
1.    Only human beings, not corporations, are endowed with constitutional rights and
2.    Money is not speech, and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.”
We are collecting signatures on petitions to present to the City Council in support of this resolution.   Our goal is to collect 10,000 signatures by early June.  Whether or not you are a Kansas City,MO resident, you can join KC area volunteers to collect signatures. If you’ve got a few hours of time or more, you can be part of the solution to  end corporate rule of America!

To volunteer, please, download the petition HERE

Petition Campaign Goes to 1st Friday at the Crossroads!
Friday, April 6 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
In front of Becos Flowers at 1922 Baltimore KCMO
KC Move To Amend volunteers will gather signatures of Kansas City MO residents to petition the KCMO city council to pass a resolution in support of a constitutional amendment
abolishing “corporate personhood.”
The word “corporation” is NOT in the US Constitution, but 5 activist US Supreme Court justices ruled that a corporation is a person and can spend unlimited money on electioneering.
We the People must amend the Constitution to stop mega-corporations from “buying” the government that will represent them over us (the real people).
We need hundreds of volunteers to get thousands of signatures on the petition! You must live in KCMO to sign—but not to volunteer to help collect signatures. We hope to see you on Friday!

The Brookside Parade was fun (photos below),
but we also need to take some of the less-fun actions.
This editorial in The Kansas City Star cries out for letters of response:
"Get 'dark money' out of campaign spending"
Let's flood The Star with letters agreeing with their view that Citizens United was a terrible ruling. But let's take the additional step of calling for a constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood.

Move To Amend "talking points" are HERE.
Many people writing brief letters have an impact!
Don't let writing a "perfect" letter stand in the way of sending a clear, brief letter!
The Brookside St. Patrick's Parade was FUN!
Forty passionate lovers of democracy passed out information & sang their hearts out!

Occupy the Federal Court
in Kansas City!

Friday, January 20
11:30am - 1:30pm
Federal Courthouse
400 East 9th Street MAP
Kansas City MO

Inspired by our friends at Occupy Wall Street, Move To Amend is planning bold action to mark the second anniversary of the infamous Citizens United v. FEC decision!
Occupy the Courts will be a one day occupation of Federal courthouses across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on Friday January 20, 2012.
Move to Amend volunteers across the USA will lead the charge on the judiciary which created — and continues to expand — corporate personhood rights.
Americans across the country are on the march, and they are marching OUR way. They carry signs that say, “Corporations are NOT people! Money is NOT Speech!
And they are chanting those truths at the top of their lungs!
The time has come to make these truths evident to the courts.
